1. Believe in Feng Shui? Have a door opening ceremony

Want to keep the positive energy and flow going? Start your new beginning in your new flat with new chi and optimism! If you believe in Feng Shui, perform a ritual to clear out the negativity and invite in the positivity once you have completed your HDB key collection. Do check with your preferred Feng Shui master to have the items ready.

2. Ensure the keys are working

Unless you want to end up frustrated or upset at the inconvenience. Do ensure all your keys are in great working condition. That means locks can be unlocked easily and smoothly. Even the keys to your letter box must be checked properly to avoid future hustles or groans.

3. Crystal clear and clean

Before living in your new flat, you need to get rid of the mess that your flat is currently in. The dust and dirt make it the opposite of family friendly. However, get to cleaning once you have your BTO sanitized. Since cleaning is an on-going process, you might look to hire a professional to handle the first cloud of dust. There are numerous cleaning services with an affordable budget.

4. BTO inspection

You don’t want to move into your new flat, only to face a myriad of problems, do you? Check for faulty switches, lights, heaters, and even taps to ensure they are in working condition. Clogged pipes and jammed taps are also to be looked out for, ensure you and your family will be able to enjoy the time without any disruptions or frustrations!

Spotted any issues? do inform the Building Service Centre (BSC) within 7 days of key collection. All newly completed HDB flats are covered by a warranty within the 1-year Defects Liability Period (DLP).

5. Bring in the interior designer

Now its time to turn that flat into a home that’s truly yours! Inviting the expert over is the best way to do so. Do remember to take important measurements, make markings, and plans for how the design is going to come out. Discussing the design clearly with your designer is the best way to ensure the renovation goes disruption-free.

6. Fix your reno budget

Here comes the most important part. Budget. If getting your dream home is something you have been looking forward to, do make sure you check your savings and accounts as to how much you will be able to spend on your BTO renovation.
